A teenager has been charged after a police officer was injured during a search of a suspected stolen car.

Officers attempted to search a vehicle near a McDonald's in Oldfields Road, Sutton at 2.41am on Saturday, March 14.

The car was then driven towards a police officer, pinning him against metal railings.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital. His injuries have been assessed as non life-threatening.

Police have now revealed that a 17-year-old who was arrested a the scene has been charged with actual bodily harm, multiple driving offences, possession of cannabis, possession of a bladed article and failing to stop.

He appeared at Croydon Magistrates’ Court on March 16 and was bailed. Police are currently awaiting details of his next court appearance.

Two other men arrested at the scene were bailed to return on a date in early April.
