The first death of a patient with coronavirus at Croydon University Hospital has today been confirmed.

On Thursday a further 29 people across the UK who tested positive for the coronavirus died, bringing the total number of confirmed reported deaths in England to 128.

A Croydon Health Services NHS Trust spokesperson said: “Sadly, we can confirm that a man who was being cared for at Croydon University Hospital, and had tested positive for COVID-19, has died.

“The patient, who died on March 17, was in his 80's and had underlying health conditions.

“His family has been informed and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this difficult and distressing time.”

The total number of people to have died after testing positive for coronavirus in the UK now stands at 137.
