British mobile network provider EE has announced several towns across the country are the first to receive 5G.

In 21 new towns and cities across the UK Loughton, Wlatham Cross, Chelmsford was selected to receive the next generation network on Thursday, March 12.

Both towns now join 71 locations across the UK, who also receive EE’s 5G connection, including Harlow and Grays, more than any other operator.

EE, part of BT Group, was the first operator to launch 5G coverage in the UK in May 2019 and has been expanding its network daily.

Jane Thomas, BT Group regional lead for the east of England, said: “EE has rolled out 5G in these two places, meaning even more people and businesses in the Essex area can benefit from the latest mobile technology.

“As well as providing faster speeds and more capacity, the future potential for 5G is incredible.”

According to independent 5G testing by RootMetrics, EE’s 5G network achieved the highest average download speed and highest availability in London, Birmingham and Cardiff.
