RESIDENTS and businesses in East Lancashire affected by Storms Ciara and Dennis could get financial help.

Whitehall officials have unveiled a series of grants for homes and firms which suffered during the floods and high winds earlier this month.

Parts of Whalley and Ribchester were among the worst-hit areas locally with streets and pubs deluged.

Up to £500 is on offer per flooded household and business recovery grants of up to £2,500 are being made available.

Full council tax discounts are also possible for a three-month period and local temporary accommodation may be provided where necessary.

Companies could also qualify for business rates relief if they were directly affected.

Further flood resilience grants of up to £5,000 are also being pledged.

Council officials in East Lancashire are still awaiting details of how residents and firms can apply for the money though.

Meanwhile the Met Office has issued another yellow weather warning for Monday, with heavy rain predicted.
