POLICE have released an image of a man they would like to trace after a woman pensioner was allegedly robbed in the street.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: "Shortly after midday on Wednesday, officers received a report that a 70-year-old woman had been robbed in the Leechmere Road area of Sunderland.

"The woman had got off a bus and was walking towards Asda when she was bundled to the ground by a man behind her.

"The offender then reached into her handbag and made off with a black Radley purse containing bank cards and approximately £100 in cash.

"Thankfully, the woman was not seriously injured but she was understandably left shaken by the incident."

An investigation was launched and detectives have now identified a man they would like to trace.
