A NORTH-EAST railway station has been named Britain’s third least punctual after figures from a Freedom of Information request were published today.

Durham Railway Station has been named among the country’s worst for rail delays, after data sourced from Network Rail revealed the performance of services at all of the UK’s 2,566 stations last year.

According to 'Departure Bored,' which today has released its new tool, Durham Railway Station is the third-worst for lateness out of the country's 500 busiest.

Meanwhile, rail users in Darlington do not escape from late-running of trains as the station is rated the 11th worst in terms of punctuality.

"So that passengers know the level of service they can expect, the rail industry has adopted the most rigorous to-the-minute measure of punctuality in Europe and has launched an online tool so people can check the past reliability of their specific train, not just their station.”
