A Llynclys resident has urged Shropshire Council to maker better repairs to a huge pothole on a road through the village, which he describes as 'a danger to life'.

Tom Casewell, 72, was driving home from Knockin in the direction towards Llynclys Crossroads, towards Oswestry, when his car struck the pothole (pictured), causing long-term damage to the tyre.

And he is urging Shropshire Council to not just make a short-term repair of the hole, which was showing an exposed corner of the grid, and use the proper materials to avoid further accidents or damage.

"About two weeks ago I was driving towards home which is towards the Llynclys Crossroads," he said.

"My car hit the pot hole and I went to have a look back at it, and it was about six inches deep.

"The tyre wasn't burst straight away bit I kept on driving, but someone pointed out to me that the wire was showing through the rubber.

"I know it shouldn't be like this.

"They have been repairing it with new tarmac over the old tarmac but they should be using hardcore to ensure the roads don't break down.

"There's no street lighting and there's no speed limit either.

"I'm not exaggerating when I say I think it is a danger to life and it's a general problem they need to sort out.

"This is Shropshire Council's responsibility and I want to see this fixed immediately.

"I'm not happy about this – they've got to get the work done."

Shropshire Council have made moves to start repair to the pothole, both on a short-term and long-term bases.

Victoria Doran, Shropshire Council highways maintenance manager, said: “A technician has carried out an inspection, following receipt of this report.

"An urgent fill repair will be carried out to deal with the immediate issue.

"However, a permanent repair will be programmed.”
