HISTORY lovers can get a glimpse of the Second World War American liberty ship, the SS Richard Montgomery, on a Thames Estuary cruise in April.
Island Cruises is planning a trip from Southend Pier to the sunken Second World War American ship the SS Richard Montgomery in the Thames Estuary.
The ship sunk in the Thames Estuary in 1944 while carrying a cargo of munitions.
The ailing ship’s rusting masts still rise ominously from the water, and can be spotted using binoculars from Southend seafront. Around 1,500 tonnes of explosives are believed to still be buried in the wreck.
