A 75-year-old woman with early-stage dementia has gone missing from Bishopbriggs in East Dunbartonshire on Wednesday evening.

Jeanette MacRae was last seen around 9.30pm leaving an address in Westergreens Avenue, Kirkintilloch and heading towards Parkburn Road.

She left her home in Cleddens Court to attend a church social event in Kirkintilloch.

Her family is concerned she may have become confused while she was driving home and was possibly unable to find the right route.

Her current whereabouts are unknown and police are becoming increasingly concerned about her wellbeing.

She is described as being 5ft 8ins and is of slim build. The 75-year-old has short fair hair and is known to wear glasses.

When last seen she was wearing a red hooded jacket, grey dress trousers and shoes.

She was driving a silver and blue Dacia Stepway with the registration SB68 CBO and ask the public to notify them of any sightings.

Inspector Duncan Evans said: “We are increasingly concerned about Jeanette as she attends the social event on a weekly basis and is usually home by 11pm.

"This is completely out of character and her family are worried that she may have lost her way.

“As Jeanette has been diagnosed with early dementia she may be confused."

The 75-year-old is known to have links to the south side of Glasgow, the Burntisland and Kirkcaldy areas of Fife, and in Bonnybridge near Falkirk.

Police warn she may seek out areas she has stayed before and ask anyone who knows her to look for her or her car.

The inspector added: "She could use her maiden name which is Carsewell, and she may be trying to go to family or friends, including places where she has stayed before.

"We would ask anyone who knows her to look out for her.

“Anyone who may have seen Jeanette or her car should call Police Scotland immediately, quoting incident 0063 of Thursday, 23 January.

"If Jeanette sees this appeal then I would ask her to contact us or her family as soon as she can.”

UPDATE: The woman has since been traced "safe and well".

A police spokeswoman said: "Police Scotland can confirm that Jeanette MacRae, 75, reported missing from Kirkintilloch, has been found safe and well.

"Thank you to everyone who assisted with our appeal."
