A CLASSIC British treat is set to return to the shelves after 22 years away.

The reintroduction of the popular sweet was announced earlier today by Mars Inc, which revealed it would be temporarily sold in supermarkets.

Opal Fruits, which were first introduced to the world 22 years ago, will be coming back in February.

The popular chews are now more commonly known as Starburst but lovers of classic sweets will remember them by their original name.

The old flavours of strawberry, lemon, orange and lime will also be making a return.

Lancashire Telegraph:

The announcement was revealed by Hannah Jackson, senior brand manager at Mars, who told The Sun: "I'm delighted that Opal Fruits are making a special return to British shelves.

"Bringing back the original flavours is sure to bring a smile to the faces of retro treat lovers across the nation. Be quick, though – they won't be available for long."

The new sweets are to be sold alongside Starbust packs and will be available in The Range, Iceland, Poundland, B&M, Home Bargains and Savers.
