ORGANISERS hope people will pull out all the stops for this year’s Brighton Pride parade.

The theme is Back To The Future and applications for those wanting to take part are now open.

The Pride Community Parade is one of the biggest events in the city’s calendar and forms the centrepiece of the country’s largest Pride Festival.

More than 400,000 people join the carnival as it winds through the streets of Brighton.

Organisers describe it as “flamboyant, vibrant and colourful” and “a show-stopping spectacle not to be missed”.

This year, they are asking participants to be as creative as possible.

They said: “Each year we are really excited to see some of the innovative and spectacular creations parade entrants come up with to interpret our theme.

“While on every other weekend of the year a feather boa and a rainbow wig might suffice, for Pride 2020 we are really hoping that applicants will pull out all the creative stops to make sure their group stands out and gets it message out.”

The floats earn special kudos if they manage to bag an award.

This year, judges will award prizes for the best costumes, the most creative float and the one that best uses recycled materials.

The theme this year looks back at the LGBT rights movement and ahead towards its future.

The organisers said: “Back To The Future will celebrate the pioneering activists of our past as well as looking to the future and the continued strive for equality for LGBT people across the world.

“The theme encourages intergenerational conversation and a recognition of the heroes and icons that paved the way for the rights we have today.

“We will continue to raise vital funds for our local LGBT and community projects. The theme builds on last year’s ‘We Stand Together’ campaign, a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising that ignited the global Pride movement.

“It is also a reaffirmation of our commitment to campaign for global LGBT equality.”

The Pride festival runs from July 31 to August 2 this year. To apply to be in the Parade, visit the Brighton Pride website at brighton-pride.org/pride-parade/
