A SAUCHIE man unleashed a torrent of racist abuse at takeaway staff during a "disgraceful" rampage last year.

Francis McFarlane, 33, was out in Alloa late on August 16 when he kicked off at Raad's Takeaway after ordering food.

Fiscal depute Susannah Hutchison told Alloa Sheriff Court on Thursday, January 9, that he made comments about the ethnicity and religious background of staff.

But upon hearing that, McFarlane could be heard sighing loudly from the dock.

Sheriff Pino di Emidio interrupted the fiscal, and told McFarlane's solicitor, Kelly Howe: "Your client gives me the impression he's not very happy about what's being said."

After a brief discussion, Ms Howe said McFarlane was sorry for the interruption, and he received a warning from the sheriff.

Ms Hutchison then continued: "[He called staff] 'f*****g b*****d Syrians', 'f*****g Turkish Muslim b******s', and told them 'go back to your own country'."

The prosecutor then said the accused then threatened to come back with his gun and shoot staff members, before he then threw his food at them.

Not long after that, he was refused entry to Chalmers Night Club by security staff, who observed he was heavily intoxicated.

McFarlane then asked them: "'Do you want a smack to the face?' I'll smash your face.'"

Police were called, and found him at Shillinghill shortly after.

Officers arrested him and took him to Falkirk Police Office, only to be subjected to a vile tirade during the journey.

The court heard he aimed homophobic abuse at police before adding: "I'll beat you like a red-headed stepchild.'"

McFarlane also said: "You f*****g Muslim b******s, you're going to get f*****g deported; you're nothing but a bunch of dirty, Muslim, paedo, child rapist b******s'; 'you're f*****g f*****s', 'gay boys.'

The accused then said the officers were "getting slashed" and continued: "I'll have you stabbed; I'll kill you and your children.'"

He continued to make violent threats while at Falkirk Police Office, stating he'd "stab and shoot police officers, and find them and kill their children".

McFarlane also spat on one police constable's face.

Despite his loud sigh during the narrative, Ms Howe said her client took "no issue" with what the fiscal had said.

She then gave a lengthy plea in mitigation for the offences of racially aggravated harassment, abusive behaviour, and assault of a police constable, committed by her client.

She spoke of how McFarlane had been "drowning his sorrows" before he kicked off, after receiving bad news about the health of a relative.

Ms Howe said: "The drunk Mr McFarlane is entirely different from the sober Mr McFarlane."

But she claimed he had abstained from alcohol since the events in question.

Sheriff Emidio described the offences as a "course of conduct which is simply disgraceful".

But he was persuaded there was an alternative to custody, and imposed a community payback order with 160 hours of unpaid work.

He also placed McFarlane on a curfew, requiring him to remain within his address on Main Street between 8pm and 5am for four months.
