MAJOR resurfacing work is due to start on several main roads in the Bradford district in the next few weeks.

To allow resurfacing of Westgate in Bradford city centre, between Drewton Road to City Road to take place, the road will be closed in both directions and diversions will be in place.

This work will take place over three Sundays between 7.30am and 7pm.

Bingley Road in Heaton, between Haworth Road and Long Lane, is also to be resurfaced.

The work has been scheduled to take place using the February half-term school holidays for five of the eight weekdays needed. Temporary traffic lights will be in place between 9.30am and 7pm.

Nelson Street in Bradford city centre, between Croft Street and Mill Lane, will also be resurfaced over three weekday nights and this road will be closed between 7pm and 7am in both directions.

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “We will get this much needed resurfacing done as quickly as we can.

"We have scheduled the work either during the school half term break or during times when they will cause least disruption.

"However, as with all outdoors work at this time of year we may have to reschedule the work if we get a spell of bad weather, but it should all be completed by the end of February.

“Drivers and commuters should expect delays and disruption and are advised to seek alternative routes where possible. We apologise for any inconvenience caused during these essential works.”
