A family in Springburn have raised thousands of pounds for charities in Glasgow by dancing in honour of their late mother.

Jodie McCann, her husband Garry and her sister Zoe as well as hundreds of others banded together this year to raise funds for the Glasgow Children's Hospital and Marie Curie Hospice in Springburn after Jodie's daughter, Brie, was born with a unique heart condition called Ebstien Anomaly.

"Brie will have to be operated on when she is older, but we wanted to give back after the amazing care that she received in the first few weeks of her life" Jodie told The Glasgow Times.

"We wanted to do it through dancing in honour of our mother, Linda Kasson, who raised £7000 before she passed away from bowel cancer ten years ago".

And time would appear to be a wonderful thing, as it was a decade ago that Linda was on the cover of The Glasgow Times for her massive fundraising efforts.

"Mum raised her money through her dance school, the Kelly Side Kicks.

"We took over the school and thought it would be a brilliant nod to her if we did the same thing, ten years on" said Jodie.

Through a mixture of donations to their Justgiving pages, as well as a charity night held at a function hall in Peterhill, Springburn, the family raised a whopping total of £6103.69 to be split between the Hospice for Linda, and the neonatal unit at the Glasgow Children's Hospital for Brie.

"We still can't believe it" said Jodie.

"It feels great to be able to do something for the people who helped us so much when Brie was born.

"The nurses in the hospice were amazing. They're like saints, or stand in mothers, and they're just there morning, noon and night.

"I don't even want to say that it was us that raised all that money because we couldn't have done it without the help of everyone else" added Jodie.

"I've been totally overwhelmed with the support that people have given us, they need to get credit too.

"I've always been one to make a negative into a positive, and I think that between Mum and Brie this is an example of that.

"We can't wait for Brie's first Christmas. She is so excited."
