A commuter has shared details of an alleged racist incident at a train station.

Zeyneb Saleem said she was at a train station on her way home from work when she was abused by a man.

She posted (@ZeynebSaleem), “I was on my way home from work, till this guy at the train station had not only racially attacked me but threatened to kill me, and was nearly successful in doing so. I never feared for my life the way I did yesterday, I thought I would live another hour again.”

“There were more than enough people inside the station that were watching it happen and see it escalating but not one person tried to stop the man or even make me feel a little safe.

“Everyone let it be and that was when I realised, I’m really left alone with this psychopath. I lost myself and tried calling everyone I could possibly but no one would pick up. Thankfully, my brother had picked up, and came running from work.

“My work colleague had came off the train too and immediately calmed me down from bawling my eyes out.”

She added, “My parents live in a fear constantly knowing that I walk/travel back and forth to places with a hijab on my head and that may be, I’ll lose my life over it one day. Subhan’Allah, they have repeatedly ask me to take it off but what they forget is, this is my identity.

“Well one thing I certainly do not wish upon you would be your sister, daughter, mother or any female close to you go through what I did alone. These videos helped me arrest him for the racial abuse and threats to kill me.”

She said police had arrested the man, “The man has been bailed until 16th Jan where they’ll decide whether to charge him or not but has been banned from the area I work in and all rail networks so hopefully I don’t have chances of seeing him again.”
