Glasgow council bosses are urging locals to "take care" as ice and snow is forecast for the area.

The Met Office have extended their yellow warning for ice for much of Scotland until around 11am today.

They say that areas of rain and hill snow will have hit areas overnight, clearing by this morning to allow temperatures to dip widely below zero.

Their website states: "Icy stretches may be encountered, especially on untreated surfaces, while the odd high-level road may see a further 1-2 cm of snow."

Locals are being warned of icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, with the Met Office adding it "may make injuries or accidents more likely".

Glasgow City Council confirmed its crews were out treating the roads yesterday in advance of the cold snap.

They tweeted: "Our forecasters think there is a chance of freezing rain later, which could make conditions very difficult if it lands on cold ground.

"Our crews are back out this afternoon, treating cycleways and roads in outlying areas - but please take care."
