Fire crews have been working to tackle yet another major blaze in Glasgow.

Emergency services were scrambled to Seaward Street, near Kinning Park subway station, shortly before 4am this morning to tackle the "complex and challenging" fire.

It's thought the fire began in a commercial building in the area.

Footage from the scene shared on social media shows smoke still billowing out of the building at around 6am.

The road has been closed to all traffic.

Around 60 firefighters in a total of 12 appliances were called to the area with crews still on the scene.

Fire chiefs are now scaling back their operation after around four hours tackling the blaze.

A spokesperson for the force confirmed: "The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was called to a commercial building fire in Seaward Street at 3.37am.

"At its height, operations control mobilised 12 appliances to the incident and crews are still in attendance at the scene."

Area Commander Garry MacKay added: “This was a complex and challenging incident with significant fire spread and crews worked hard to prevent further spread to neighbouring properties.

“We are now confident we have contained the blaze and are scaling back our response

“I would like to thank our police and ambulance service partners who provided excellent support during this incident.

“We are working with Police Scotland to manage traffic disruption in the area this morning.”

Glasgow City Council confirmed the road was closed and diversions in place.

A council traffic information bulletin reads: "Due to a building fire, Seaward Street is closed to all traffic between Paisley Road West and M8 Eastbound off slip to Scotland Street until further notice.

"Emergency Services are in attendance and road users should follow their direction.

"Further bulletins will be issued as more information becomes available."

It comes just hours after fire crews tackled a "challenging" blaze in the city centre.

We told how at around 2am on Sunday, emergency services were called to Pitt Street at the junction with Sauchiehall Street after receiving reports of the fire.

The cause of that fire is still unknown, but fire chiefs say it began in a commercial business within the building.

And just last Monday a fire broke out at a block of flats on Lancefield Quay on the banks of the River Clyde.

Sixty firefighters and 15 appliances extinguished the "well-developed" blaze.

No-one was hurt in that fire, however around 200 people were forced to leave their homes with up to 30 flats affected.
