WORKERS at a scrap metal dealership got more than they bargained for when they went into the bushes in October 1979.

That’s because puppies were discovered by officials from L Neale and Son on Mill Hill hidden in a cave.

The pups were captured by the council dog warden and were set to spend seven days in the Meadowend Kennels in Guide.

Graham Neale, company director, said: “We have noticed the bitch around quite a lot recently, but never suspected she had a litter in the bushes.

“Someone noticed her carrying food in there and when we investigated we found the pups.

“We were the first humans they had ever seen and they were very timid. The pups are very healthy, which is incredible because their mother has had no help in raising them.”

Their mum had fashioned the den in the cave.
