YOUNG people were given the chance to ask parliamentary candidates questions.

Over 50 teens at Blackburn Youth Zone asked questions of the Liberal Democrats candidate, Beth Waller-Slack, The Green Party’s Reza Hussain, The Brexit Party’s Rick Moore, and Labour’s Kate Hollern.

The Conservatives and independent representatives were unable to attend.

CEO of Blackburn Youth Zone, Hannah Allen, said: “We wanted to host this event as we know how passionate young people of Blackburn with Darwen are about their town.

“We believe it is crucial that young people have a voice and that their voice is heard.

“It has been great to see the response to the event and to see so many young people wanting to get involved with politics.”

Some of the key questions young people wanted to know, were whether free transport would be given to young people and lowering the voting age to 16.

Uday Akram, BwD Youth MP said: “It was a really engaging event and the candidates all responded well to the questions put forward to them.

“The fact that young people were given the opportunity to ask questions shows the candidates care about what the young people in the town think.”
