AN inquest into the presumed death of a man who vanished from his home in Swanage nearly two years ago is due to be held in Bournemouth today.

The body of 67-year-old landscape gardener Gerald Turner has never been found but details about his disappearance from his Church Hill home will be examined by Assistant Dorset Coroner Brendan Allen.

Mr Turner, who went missing in the early hours of Sunday March 4 2018, suffered from Lewy Body Dementia(LBD), which causes a progressive decline in mental ability.

Police were notified and extensive searches were carried out but he has never been found.

An earlier hearing was told Mr Turner had Type 1 diabetes, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and was thought unlikely to be able to survive without medication, which was left at his home.

His wife, Jane Pierette Turner, has since launched a carer’s group for those who support loved ones with LBD.

The inquest will take place at the coroner's court in Bournemouth Town Hall.
