POLICE are warning football fans armed response officers will be at Burnley FC's tie with Manchester City tonight.

It comes after the Lancashire Telegraph reported that armed police were in Blackburn town centre on Saturday afternoon.

Burnley and Padiham Police posted on their Facebook page a message about tonight's match.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "Are you going on the Turf tonight?

"You’re likely to see our armed response officers around the grounds and in the town centre before, during and after the fixture against Man City.

"We would like to reassure you that this is nothing to be concerned about.

"Patrols have been out and about in busy areas across the county following the terror attack at London Bridge on Friday, but there is no intelligence to suggest a threat to Lancashire.

"It is simply a precaution.

"If you do have any concerns at all feel free to speak to one of our officers, they are there to keep you safe and are happy to talk.

"Enjoy the game!"
