Ex-Celtic star Charlie Nicholas reckons only a "really desperate" club would splash out £40million for Rangers' Alfredo Morelos.

The Colombian striker has started the season on fire with 25 goals in just 29 games.

His scintillating form has sparked transfer rumours aplenty with the likes of Crystal Palace and St Etienne reportedly keen among others.

This led to Gers chief Dave King insisting the club would not sell Morelos for £40million - a claim Nicholas scoffs at.

And the latter believes the Light Blues won't get near that price for their star man.

"Rangers can dream up whatever number they like for Alfredo Morelos," he wrote in his Express column.

"Dave King has said he won't sell him for £40million in January.

"We can all come up with numbers but unless a club is genuinely interested and comes up with a realistic bid then it means nothing.

"The bottom line is that Gers are not going to get anyone to bid anywhere near that.

"It would need to be a team that is really, really desperate.

Fireworks fly in Rotterdam as Morelos hits the mark

"If a bid was to come in around the £25m mark then there would be a serious debate in the Ibrox boardroom rather than the £40m that has been quoted."

Nicholas also went on to explain how Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard would cost even more if he were to go.

He added: "Edouard has delivered in the Old Firm derbies, whereas Morelos hasn't.

"That has been the difference a lot of the time.

"If Morelos is worth that then Celtic must be thinking Odsonne Edouard is worth £50m."
