The A666 Manchester Road is blocked partially both ways due to an accident.
The accident near Billy Lane has left traffic congested to Kearsley, with traffic mostly affected heading South into Manchester.
Transport for Greater Manchester has told drivers to use an alternative route if possible.
They said in a tweet: "The A666 Bolton Road (near Swinton) is reportedly blocked southbound between the junctions of Billy Lane and Queensway.
"There are long delays on approach, so use an alternative route if you can."
