A MAN has been charged with wounding a wheelchair user who died after being attacked in the town centre.
Michael Mairs was left in a coma after suffering serious injuries in the incident on Winwick Street shortly after midday on Sunday, October 6.
The 53-year-old died in Warrington Hospital more than three weeks later on Monday, October 28.
Daniel Sharples, of no fixed address, has now been charged with wounding with intent over the attack, replacing a lesser charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm that he had previously faced.
The 37-year-old, previously of Griesedale Avenue in Orford, is due to appear at Warrington Magistrates Court tomorrow, Tuesday.
However, the Warrington Guardian understands that Cheshire Police’s investigations into Mr Mairs’ death are continuing and that the charges faced could yet be changed again.
