Conservative candidate Wayne Bridges will put Brexit at the heart of his campaign as he takes on John McDonnell in Hayes and Harlington.

Labour's shadow chancellor - who has held the seat since 1987 - will be defending a 37.9% majority after banking 66.5% of the vote two years ago.

But Mr Bridges - who was a vocal voice in the local Vote Leave campaign three years ago - will be hoping to gain traction in a constituency where remain polled 41.75% in the EU referendum.

However, two years ago Tory candidate Greg Smith polled just 28.6% in the area.

"We receive poor representation from our local MP, who refuses to work with an efficiently run council locally, and at a national level seems only interested in frustrating Parliament," said Mr Bridges, who was born San raised in Northolt and has been a Hillingdon councillor since 2010.

"I'm determined to stand up for the interests of local residents who have an important decision to make at this election.

"They can stick with the doom-and-gloom negativity of the incumbent or back me as their local MP for a new and positive approach really making a difference for the residents of Hayes and Harlington.”
