CHILDREN across Bolton have been learning the magic of being around horses.

Ponies were brought to school so that pupils who would never otherwise have had the chance to meet them could get up close.

The children walked with the animals, helped to groom them and got to know them.

HorseHeard, based in Chorley, works to promote positive emotional health and confidence in children, young people and adults through the powerful connection with horses.

They brought the ponies to meet Year Five and Six youngsters from Pikes Lane, Hardy Mill, Beaumont, Clarendon, Moorgate and Heathfield primary schools in Bolton.

HorseHeard’s business development manager Christine Worthington explained: “It’s so rewarding to see the changes and the development in the children over the four weeks involved.

“The magic happens in the presence of the pony.

“All the children showed increased confidence, some improved their language as they were encouraged to talk about their feelings.

“They became more self-aware and also aware of the feelings of others.

“They also had the opportunity to overcome challenges during the session and in the actions they agreed to take in between sessions.”

One youngster, Alfie, said: “I’ve learned that I am more confident. I need to keep going and keep my energy”.

Ricardo added: “I can do it! I’ve learned to be brave and happy.”
