DETECTIVES investigating an incident where up to 15 men were fighting in the street with weapons have charged a teenager.

The 16-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with attempted murder and assault and is due to appear before Preston Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Police were called at shortly before 11pm on Wednesday, October 30 to reports of a group of men fighting on Ullswater Close in the town.

Two men, aged 19 and 20, from Blackburn, received knife wounds and were treated at hospital.

Their injuries are described as serious but they are in a stable condition.

Inquiries are continuing.

Three other men aged 20, 24 and 31, from Blackburn, who were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder have been released under investigation.

Detective Inspector Andy Horne said: “I would like to thank the local community for their support and understanding as we have gone about our enquiries and the bravery of the victims and witnesses.

"I would also like to thank the uniformed police officers who responded to this incident and undoubtedly saved a life and the detectives who have worked on the enquiry so far.”
