LORRIES have been called in to recover vehicles left stuck in flooded roads.
Last night storms battered Sussex with thunder and lightning and torrential downpours.
At Meridian Way in Peacehaven cars had to navigate deep flood waters.
Pictures by Amanda Wishart reveal some cars attempting to swerve around the worst part of the road.
But at least one vehicle had to be recovered.
One image shows floodwaters rising over the bonnet of one car, while other motorists behind appear to have changed their minds about trying to get through.
Instead they turned around.
Another image shows just how deep the flooding was in the road.
Although a Southern Water lorry appears to have had no difficulty passing through.
Meanwhile Brian Barnard reported a felled tree in Jobs Lane, Hickstead.
He said the road is often used as a shortcut to avoid traffic on the nearby A2300 approach to the A23.
It follows Met Office weather warnings for localised flooding and a weekend washout.
Meanwhile BBC weather forecaster Tomasz Schafernaker said: “Yesterday some of the downpours were really heavy, with cracks of thunder too.
“Low pressure will influence our weather for the next 48 hours.”
