UP to 80 new jobs could be created as a new discount superstore is set to open in the town.

Home Bargains is set to open a new store at the Middlebrook Retail Park in Horwich in early 2020.

The new store will sell a range of products including homewares, health a beauty products, sweets, snacks, drinks and fresh and frozen food, as well as boasting a garden centre.

Bosses say they expect the new outlet will employ 60 to 80 full time and part time staff.

The new store will be located near to the Middlebrook entrance and will occupy a 33,260 sq ft site — including a 5,565 sq ft conservatory and 9,537 sq ft garden centre — created after the Homebase store halved its internal space earlier this year.

It will be the sixth Home Bargains store in the area, joining outlets in Newport Street, Bolton Shopping Park off Trinity Way, Burnden Park, Bury Road, Breightmet; and Market Street, Farnworth.

Mark Hanna, senior retail leasing surveyor at Middlebrook’s owner, Orbit Developments, said he believed the retail park was the perfect spot for Home Bargains

He added added: “Middlebrook shoppers have been asking us for a retailer like Home Bargains on the park so we’re delighted to have received planning permission for this new store.

“They join a great selection of other successful retail brands at Middlebrook, establishing the Park as a great destination for local shoppers.

“Home Bargains popularity is sure to add further footfall to the benefit of everyone at Middlebrook.

"We wish them well.”
