A restaurant owner has hit back after it was falsely reported on social media there were rats in the alleyway behind his business.

Videos showing rats scurrying around behind Victoria Street in Blackburn were shared across social media. This section of Victoria Street is well away from the Pepe's Piri Piri Restaurant on Victoria Street.

Assad Khalil who runs the restaurant said, “There has been a lot of misinformation concerning this.

“When people read Victoria Street they think the whole stretch is like this.

“If you look in our section it is completely clear and I did get one person who posted this wrongly to apologise on social media.”

In the videos shared on social media, rats are seen jumping on to bins behind Victoria Street, Blackburn but this is clearly the Vicrtoria Street alleyway near to the Charlotte Street end.

Assad said he was seeking legal advice with regards to the posts. He added, “I would urge people to come and have a look at our premises themselves and we would gladly show them around.

“This kind of misinformation is unfair on those businesses and eating places who take a great deal of care in ensuring their areas are clean.

“We have worked hard to make sure that Pepe’s is renowned for cleanliness. I do hope people think twice before sharing the wrong information.”
