“When we looked there was someone in the police car being talked to.

“There were two ambulances outside our house and then there were lots of police cars here.

“It is very sad news and my thoughts are going out to the family even though I did not know them.”

Another St James Road resident Nesta Gregson said: “I saw the flashing lights and went out and there were lots of people in the street.

“There was a lot of cordons set up. My husband was out and had to get a police officer to escort him down to our house.

“It is so very very sad. It is terrible news and you have got to feel for the family as they are left to pick up the pieces and it is so heart-breaking.”
