KEIGHLEY’S branch of Thomas Cook was closed this week following the collapse of the holiday giant.

The outlet in the Airedale Shopping Centre shut in common with other branches across the country.

Centre manager, Steve Seymour, said the unit didn’t open yesterday but he added he’d had no official contact from the company.

“Hopefully something can be rescued,” he said.

“Any loss in retail is a shame.

“My thoughts are with the employees and customers of Thomas Cook.”

The UK Civil Aviation Authority and the Government have launched a repatriation programme for the next fortnight to bring home holidaymakers left stranded by the firm’s liquidation.

And a dedicated website has been set-up – at thomascook.caa.co.uk – with specific details on the programme, including advice on accommodation.

Thomas Cook – whose roots date back to 1841 – hit problems six years ago and announced nearly 200 store closures then, but Keighley was unaffected.
