FRENCH singer-songwriter and guitarist Felix Rabin is performing in Keighley this month.

The Brittany-raised, Switzerland-based performer was inspired by musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Pink Floyd - his style embodies these influences with inventive riffs, moody melodies and stunning guitar solos.

His contemporary blues-rock will delight live music lovers and aspiring guitarists alike at Keighley’s Studio 5 on Friday October 11.

Felix will be playing at three venues with his band The Leopard: in Doncaster on Friday September 27, Studio 5 Live in Keighley on Friday October 11 and The Greystones in Sheffield on Monday October 28.

In 2018 the talented musician was special guest on the Wishbone Ash XLIX UK Tour, playing with his band to around 10,000 music fans at 28 venues across the country.

“The tour exceeded his expectations,’’ says a spokesman, ‘After receiving an amazing response, it wasn’t long before Félix was back in the UK.’’

His first stand-alone UK tour in April this year was hugely successful, attracting music fans across the country, enjoying atmospheric numbers such as ‘I will be gone’ and the punchy, rhythmic tone of ‘Down our roads.’ It was on the back of this success that a revisit later in the year was planned.

Says Felix: “It was an incredible feeling in some cities when people came up to us saying they discovered us during our tour with Wishbone Ash and wanted to see us again. So five months after our last tour, we’re more than excited to come back.”

Although his family were not musical, Felix grew up surrounded by music, with his dad playing CDs and mum listening to the radio. “We had a house full of instruments even though no one was playing them,” he laughs. “I had a guitar without strings but I had all the fun in the world ‘playing’ it.”

Felix was aged 15 when he asked for a guitar for Christmas and has not looked back. He began by playing in jam sessions with friends, while travelling around Switzerland and occasionally France.

For more than four years he played in jam sessions at the Montreux Jazz Festival. He played at the opening and also hit the stage with many great musicians including Avishai Cohen, Matthieu Chedid and the band of Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga.

One night he was complemented on his music by Quincy Jones, who called him over and spent time talking to him. He told Felix that he liked the way he played.

With pressing demand from fans for an album, in June this year Felix travelled to studios in Los Angeles to record his debut EP.

“One of the reasons why it took me so much time to organise the recording was that it took place in the States and getting the studio and producer I wanted was time consuming, but fortunately everything finally came together,” he says. The album will be released early next year.
