AMAZING! That was the verdict on an annual Super Cars & Super Heroes day staged in Keighley.

Organiser Julian Maxfield said the event, the fifth, was “the best yet”.

Crowds converged on Beechcliffe Special School, at Utley, on Saturday to enjoy a wide range of attractions.

There was an array of cars on display from the Classic Corvette Club UK, featuring vehicles spanning the last half century.

Support was provided by members of the Chevin Motor Club, who brought along cars ranging from Japanese performance motors to a 1970s Chevrolet Camaro.

And private owners attended with famous cars from the big screen, such as Herbie, and classics from manufacturers including Jaguar.

Visitors could mingle with a host of Star Wars characters, courtesy of Sentinel Squad UK, and costumed individuals with a passion for the movie franchise.

As Darth Vader patrolled the event looking for new Imperial recruits, the sand people and Jawas were seeking to dismantle Luke Skywalker`s land speeder that had arrived from Scene Movie Car & Prop Hire.

Avengers assembled from the Cosmaniacs and Stark Industry Entertainment and there was the ever-popular Cha Cha slide Bumblebee courtesy of CPM Entertainments, plus other cinema characters including Deadpool and Robocop. All took part in a parade and posed for photographs with fans.

Other attractions included stalls manned by school staff and parents.

There were cakes, a raffle, tombola, games such as hook-a-duck, and go-karts, plus face painting from Macies Party Hire. Also – for the first time – there were outside traders, with Helen`s Handcrafted Gifts selling super hero themed items.

The event raised just over £1,000. A £150 donation will go to Sentinel Squad UK`s nominated charity, Little Hiccups, and the remainder to the school.

Mr Maxfield said: “The day was amazing. I couldn’t hold the event without the incredible support of the school staff, parents and car clubs, cosplay groups and friends. And a massive thank-you goes to all those people who came along and enjoyed the day and supported this very worthy cause.”
