KARL Robinson insists Oxford United are improving despite some familiar flaws holding them back in the 3-3 draw at home to Coventry City.

Not for the first time this season, the opposition manager was happy to avoid defeat against a U’s side who had controlled long spells of the game.

But until the latter stages they were unable to convert the pressure into goals, while at the other end City’s chances were limited but the visitors still found a way to score three times.

Robinson said: “We’re always learning.

“I’m seeing improvements every week. We’ve just got to keep believing in what we have and we’ll be good.

“They can’t keep making the mistakes, but they’re young.

“Gavin Whyte made these mistakes but he learned from them and grew.

“Cameron Brannagan is still young, so is Rob Dickie, Elliott Moore, as is Cadds (Chris Cadden) for his position.

“I can’t ask any more from my players, I think they gave me everything.”

Robinson had a conference call yesterday with U’s owner Sumrith Thanakarnjanasuth as they made

last-minute plans for the transfer deadline, which is at 5pm today.

There could be movement in both directions, but the head coach has received a boost over Matty Taylor’s injury.

A second scan on the groin injury he suffered last weekend revealed the striker could be back in action this month.

Robinson said: “It’s not as bad as we thought, but the timescale is going to be difficult.

“They say anything between three to six weeks, but it depends on the symptoms and at this moment they’re clearing up very quickly.

“Yes, it’s a while, but it’s not a massively long one, which is lucky.”
