Now, though, it has been reported that several clubs in English football's top flight were in to sign the player - who knocked deals back in favour of a move to Glasgow.
The Athletic are claiming that the likes of Crystal Palace and Wolves were hopeful of bringing the Irish under-19s star in while we told recently how Russian giants Lokomotiv Moscow were also interested.

However Afolabi himself recently explained in his own words, his reasons for signing for Celtic.
He said: "Celtic is just a stand-out team for me, and they have a great reputation of bringing youngsters from the Academy through the ranks.
"The club has great facilities, and a great winning mentality, which is what I want to be a part of."
