A CONVICTED sex attacker is back behind bars after he battered his lover for wearing make-up.

Donovan McGowan wielded a hammer as he told his terrified victim: "You are lucky you are not a guy."

The 29-year-old also hurled racist remarks at the 35-year-old during the attack at his home in Knightswood.

McGowan was previously jailed for five years in 2011 after he tried to rape a teenage girl who came to his aid while he was drunk.

He has now been locked up for 12 months for this latest incident after admitting to assault and acting in a racially aggravated manner.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how the woman and a friend returned to McGowan's home after a party in June this year.

Prosecutor Lauren McRobert said: “He shouted at her as she was wearing make-up and had her hair done.

“He called her a 'p**i lover' as her child is of mixed race. He then said: 'Go and get your black man’.”

McGowan went on to punch the woman twice.

He stormed out and returned clutching a hammer before making the "lucky" remark.

Police were alerted - but McGowan warned his lover and her friend to be quiet when they turned up at his door.

It was not until the next day officers spoke with the victim.

They noticed bruises on her arms and legs, and police eventually discovered McGowan hiding.

John Harper, defending, said the attack was “unsavoury” and that McGowan was “extremely remorseful.”

Sheriff Norman Ritchie QC told McGowan: “Your record is simply atrocious and I’m sure you know that.”

McGowan was found guilty of the attempted rape of a 17-year-old girl in 2011.

He got another six months added to his sentence for contempt of court at the time.

Following the verdict in this case, he shouted at the young victim: "You'd better move out of Glasgow," and branded her a “cow”.
