THE colourful tale of a man-eating plant comes to Oldham’s Grange Theatre tomorrow night.

Brit Theatre will be bringing the musical, the Little Shop of Horrors to life with a series of shows this week and next.

The horror comedy rock musical is set in Skid Row where nerdy flower shop assistant Seymour raises a plant that feeds on human blood and flesh.

The Oldham-based theatre company behind the show,, Brit Theatre, was set up around three years ago by Dave Benson.

An internationally-renowned stage designer, Dave wanted to give something back to his home town.

“After being involved in productions around the world I wanted to put something back. There is so much talent out there and we are trying to nurture it and to give actors an experience of what it is really like to work in a commercial theatre environment.”

For Little Shop of Horrors, there will be two actors sharing the role of Audrey.

“We want to give them as professional experience as possible,” said Dave. “This is what happens on a professional show - you can find yourself playing opposite different people.”

Dave is directing the production but is proud of the whole team behind the show.

They include costume designer Veronika Hindle, who lives in New York, choreographer Helena Ferreira, musical director Matt Corrigan and acting coach Jayne Buchanan.

“It is very much a team effort,” said Dave. “Everyone is committed to giving those who come to Brit Theatre the best experience possible. We want them to grow as performers during their time with us

“But it is not just for the performers. There are some very talented people in technical areas of the theatre too and we have produced everything in house in terms of scenery and staging.”

Little Shop of Horrors stars Grace Rider and Eve Tremayne-Ryan as Audrey, Steve Norman as Mr Minchak and Ethan Seal as Seymour.

The production will be staged at the Grange Theatre tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday and then again next Friday, Saturday and Sunday. There will also be matinee performance each Saturday afternoon. Details from 0161 785 4239 or www.ticketsource.co.uk
