THE victims of the Srebrenica genocide were remembered at a special service in Blackburn Cathedral.

Dozens of school children, along with the leader of Blackburn with Darwen Council, Cllr Mohammed Khan and dignitaries observed the service to remember more than 8,000 Muslim Bosnians who were killed during the Bosnian War in July 1995.

Ramiza Gurdic, from the Association Movement of Mothers of Srebrenica and Zepa Enclaves, spoke of her shocking experiences during the war.

Aida Corbadzic and Elvir Solak from the National Theatre of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina's oldest theatre, performed traditional music which was performed during the war.

A one minutes silence was observed and candles were lit in remembrance.
