A 'DECORATOR' suffered head and hand injuries when he was attacked by a group of men in a street.

The man in his 30s was attacked by four people in Ashley Court, Accrington, at 2.45pm on Wednesday.

Police said the victim suffered injuries to the top of his head and both hands and was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Police said a weapon was used and initial reports claimed a hammer was involved.

Neighbours were seen helping the man and called the emergency services.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Police cars and a crime scene investigation team were at the scene for several hours.

Officers taped off the road while investigations were carried out.

Ashley Court residents said the man was a painter and decorator who was working on one of the houses.

One resident said: “He was working at one of the houses when blokes attacked him.

“One of them apparently had a hammer I’ve been told.

“I heard all the commotion and came outside to see what was going on when I saw the man lying on the road near the gate.

“A couple of neighbours dragged him deeper into the cul-de-sac because we didn’t know if these men were going to come back again.

“The police and paramedics came and shut off the road while they investigated.

“A recovery truck was called out to collect the poor bloke’s van as it was stuck here.”

Another Ashley Court resident said: “It’s horrible to think this poor man has been attacked while just out working.

“I hope he’s not in too much of a bad way.

“Someone’s shed got broken into on this street not too long ago.

“There’s a bit of a crime here at the moment and it needs to stop.”

Lancashire Telegraph:

The police spokesman said: “The man is in a stable condition and his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

“There were up to four men involved in the attack.

“Initial reports came in believing there was a weapon used, a hammer was mentioned as the potential weapon.

“We don’t believe there to be a threat to the wider community.”

No arrests have yet been made.
