A MUM has hit out after her son was banned from going on a £400 school trip to Morocco over a prank gone wrong.

Amir Hussain, 16, had just finished his final day at Eden Boys’ School in Wolfenden Street on Monday when a group of lads started messing around throwing eggs and flour over each other.

But it is believed the stunt caused damage to a staff member’s car and now a group of boys, including Amir, have been banned from their end of year trip to Morocco as well as their end of school party.

But Amir’s mother, Shaida, who had been saving up for the trip, believes the punishment is too harsh and claims the boys should be allowed back on the trip.

She said: “He has never been involved in any trouble. They are 16-year-old boys. I’m sure that it might have got a bit out of hand but everybody has done it.”

She added: “I think they have been really harsh. I just feel that the school should have come up with an alternative punishment. They are already banned from going to the school party. It is two punishments.

“The school is trying to show how disciplined it is. I’m annoyed that it is just a few boys that have been singled out.”

Ms Hussain first found out about the punishment on Monday.

She said: “I was called into school, I was told there has been a serious incident at school.

“Boys have been throwing eggs and flour because it was there last day of school.

“I was told that my son could not go on the end of school trip.”

The trip is due to take place in just eight days’ time and Ms Hussain initially feared she would be forced to forfeit the £400 she had paid for her son to go on the trip - but the school has now confirmed she will get back her cash.

She said: “I’m a single parent, I have made every effort to send my son to this school for five years.”

Star Academies, which operates Eden Boys’ School, confirmed that the parents of people removed from the trip will get the money they have paid for the trip refunded.

Ms Hussain, of Great Lever, says that her son has also been banned from the school’s end of year party today, but has never had a behaviour issue during his years there.

She says that the double punishment is too harsh on her son, who was looking forward to making the trip to Morocco a “lasting memory”.

A spokesperson for the school said: “After school on Monday, there was an incident involving a very small number of pupils. The school has addressed the matter with the pupils and parents concerned.”
