MORE than £1,000 has been raised for charity after Chard residents decided to undergo drastic head shaves in support of babyloss.

The event was organised by the Nayely Adelpha Foundation and held on Sunday (June 9) in the Phoenix Hotel, Chard.

The charity was set up in memory of Nayely Adelpha Clapp, who was born sleeping on the December 19, 2018.

On the day there was a raffle, tombolas for adults and children, coffee and cake, other stalls and a cash draw.

At 12.30pm, Nayely’s parents Nathan and Emileen Clapp took their places to be waxed and shaved respectively.

Emileen said: “This is when the reality hit. When I sat in that chair for them to start to cut my hair, all I could think about was why we were doing this, remembering everything we went through, that’s when my tears began.

“It felt like the room was empty when I sat down, but as John switched off the clippers there was a loud cheer from behind me and I turned to see a room full of people. That’s when I knew it would be an amazing day.”

Six people had full head shaves, and five more lost more than eight inches of hair.

Six men also underwent waxes in support of the great cause.

Nathan said: “There were laughs, a few ouch moments, tears and smiles. It was a very emotional day. The event on the day raised £1,014.81 and there is still a lot of sponsorship money to collect.”

Funds will go to Single Yellow Rose, Little Daffodils and Love Musgrove and national charity Tommy’s.
