A ROAD in York remains closed today after a 'sinkhole' opened up in its surface.
Penley's Grove Street, off Monkgate - a key route through The Groves - was shut yesterday afternoon.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said crews from Acomb and York 'responded to a sinkhole' and cordoned off the area before leaving the matter the hands of the police.
Terence Priestman, a police response officer who went to the hole and supplied this picture, said a hole was apparently repaired by Yorkshire Water on Thursday night 'but looks to have been a little too temporary.'
He added:" It's about 10 foot across under the surface and 6 foot deep."
Fencing has been installed around the hole until repairs can be carried out.
