AN elderly woman was taken to hospital after her car crashed into a McDonald's drive-thru restaurant.

Eyewitnesses said the car had believed to have come off the roundabout in Princess Way, Burnley, before going through a fence and through into the drive-thru area of the fast-food restaurant just before 10.40am.

David Greenwood, who went past McDonald's just after the crash said: "We were just going to the ASDA to get our shopping and we saw the car.

"It looks like its missed the roundabout, gone through a fence, up the banking and knocked over a sign before crashing into the drive-thru.

"There was a woman in the driver's seat still sat there.

"McDonald's staff had come out to help her, she looked shook up.

"The first responders just arrived as we went past."

A police spokesman said the woman was taken to Royal Blackburn Hospital with minor injuries.

The spokesman said: "We were called at 10.40am to Princess Way after a white Toyota car had driven into a McDonald's drive-thru sign.
