The urgent order was issued after council inspectors found extensive electrical faults which posed a serious fire hazard.
Bearing in mind recent disasters, including the fire at Bradford City football ground, the council had no hesitation in refusing a new licence.
The Palace, probably Bradford’s oldest nightclub at the time, had been packed each week following its £50,000 renovation in September 1988.
It held alcohol free sessions for youngsters and specialised in Sixties music attracting acts such as the Drifters the Merseybeats and the Tremeloes.
