Jason Gillespie says England had a simple choice over Jofra Archer.
The Sussex paceman has made the 15-man squad for the World Cup, which starts a week on Thursday.
Gillespie said: “It’s great for Jofra, great for Sussex and good for England.
“He had to be in the squad. He’s in the best 15 players so, for me, it’s very simple.
“There are guys who missed out and they are very unfortunate. That’s how selection goes.”
The Sussex head coach added: “I’m delighted for Jofra. Everyone around the club, the coaching staff, need to be commended - and Jofra himself.”
Gillespie revealed Archer's fellow Sussex quick Ollie Robinson is unlikely to make the home match against Glamorgan next week.
Robinson's recovery from a problem just under his left shoulder has been slowed this week by illness.
