A MAN who broke a doorman’s nose when he headbutted him in a Bradford pub has been ordered to pay his victim £1,000 compensation.

Gareth Naylor, 34, was arguing with the landlord and landlady at his local, The Garden Shed, in High Street, Wibsey, when he attacked Karam Ramzan at closing time on March 30.

Naylor, of Market Street, Wibsey, pleaded guilty to assaulting Mr Ramzan and causing him actual bodily harm. Prosecutor Philip Adams told Bradford Crown Court on Friday that Mr Ramzan asked Naylor to leave the pub at 12.45am and tried to take his arm when he refused to go. Naylor then headbutted him, displacing his nose and causing it to swell and bleed heavily.

Mr Ramzan was treated in hospital for a fractured nose and was thinking of giving up his job as a door supervisor, the court was told.

Naylor, who had downed up to eight pints and taken cocaine, apologised, the court was told. He had 27 previous convictions for 31 offences, including assault, affray, burglary and production of cannabis.

His barrister, Jeremy Hill-Baker, said Naylor had kept out of trouble for five years. He was a regular at the pub and deeply remorseful.

Naylor, who suffered from depression, had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.

He was sentenced to a two-year community order with 120 hours of unpaid work and a programme of rehabilitation activity requirement days with the probation service. He must pay Mr Ramzan £1,000 compensation.
