THE FUTURE of a popular leisure centre will be put to the public.

Trafford Council is to open a consultation with residents over the closure and possible development of the George H Carnall Leisure Centre (GHC) in Urmston.

In November 2016, the council’s executive approved a plan to consolidate leisure services at an improved Urmston Leisure Centre, which would be completed in early 2020.

Part of this plan included a commitment to consult with the community on the closure of GHC as a leisure centre and identify opportunities for the future development of the building and adjoining land.

Cllr Andrew Western, Trafford Council leader, said: "The council is keen to ensure that the views of the local community are heard and that any proposals taken forward for the George H Carnall will have benefited from the input and engagement of local residents and businesses.

"This will help us to achieve the best possible solution and maximise the potential of the site for the Urmston and nearby community."

The event will update the community on the current position and ask for views on what residents would like to see included within and surrounding the site.

Anyone interested in having a say is invited to attend a public consultation drop-in event on May 21 2019 between 4-7pm at George H Carnall or alternatively at Urmston Library on May 30 2019 between 2-5pm.
