PHASE two of a development of 40 two and three-bed houses for rent in Bolton Woods is taking shape and follows the completion last year of 24 homes, also released for rent.

The development is being carried out by social landlord Incommunities who says it is helping transform areas of outdated housing into smart new affordable homes right across Bradford.

The work going on in Bolton Woods is part of Incommunities’ current programme to complete over 250 rented homes for local home-hunters over the next two years and over 1,000 new affordable homes by 2025 across the Bradford district.

The plans will see developments also created on sites in Manningham and Thornbury.

New residents to one of the homes completed in the first phases have said they have settled in well after requesting a move to the new house on health grounds.

Liam Bentley, his partner Julie and their teenage daughter and son downsized from a larger rented home in Thorpe Edge to their new three-bed family home in Bolton Woods and say the move has changed their lives.

Liam said: “Due to a serious respiratory condition I struggled with the access in and out of our last home.

“Moving here has been brilliant and it’s a lovely, friendly neighbourhood. The home is a credit to Incommunities.”

Angela Perry, Incommunities assistant chief executive, asset management said: “We pride ourselves on our track record of building affordable homes for local people and we are on track to complete our ambitious plans to build 1,400 properties by 2025 of which 1,000 will be affordable housing with a further 3,000 homes beyond 2025.

“At the same time we think it is important to offer people wanting to get on the housing ladder greater choice such as shared ownership, rent to buy and outright sale options.

“In these cases, the income we generate is being reinvested into improving our customers’ homes, developing our services and building more homes for rent.

“We are also committed to regenerating former housing sites and replacing them with new homes fit for the 21st century.”

Rupert Pometsey, director of Lumia Homes, part of Incommunities said: “We work closely with the national regeneration agency Homes England and local developers to maximise the opportunity to build much needed affordable homes and have exciting plans to develop more new sites!

“Over the last two years we have expanded to build family-sized homes in Kirklees on three sites.

“We also have ambitious plans to move into parts of North and South Yorkshire.”

Since 2006 Incommunities has built over 1000 homes, the majority of these have been for rent.

They include Green Lane, in Manningham, where Incommunities is building the final phase of 14 family-sized homes in addition to 65 houses completed in 2017, all for affordable rent.

Most of Incommunities new homes have been released for affordable rent alongside some shared ownership and market sale units.
