THE annual Horwich Triathlon saw strong performances from Lostock AC's women triathletes on an unseasonably cold bank holiday Sunday.
Known as the Race to the Pike due to the brutal run from Horwich Leisure Centre to the Pike that follows the undulating 24-mile bike, and attracting the best amateur triathletes from the North West and beyond, Rachel Hancock turned in a strong performance to finish as 23rd-placed woman and sixth in her age group in an overall time of 2hrs 35mins 2secs that included a 46:43 run time.
Fresh from being selected to represent Great Britain in her age group at the 2020 World Duathlon championships, Mary White demonstrated all her usual skill and ability to finish as 27th woman and first in her age group in an overall time of 2:37:15, with splits of 12:20 for the 500m swim, a 1:30:11 bike time and 50:13 run.
Alan Mather completed the trio of Lostockers, finishing in a time of 2:57:10.
At Haigh Hall parkrun, Gareth Pratt clocked 22:29, Andy Laycock finished in 23:36 and Ian Burns ran 30:08.
At Worsley Woods parkrun, Mark Shuttleworth crossed the line in 21:18.
